Lorna Glace's immensely significant and consistent work supporting the race equality agenda in; DTI, TradePartners UK DIUS, BERR, BIS & BEIS

In tribute to Lorna Glace, in addition to being a very nice lady Lorna & I go back to the days of the old DTI  through to TradePartners UK, DIUS, BERR, BIS, BEIS & CSRF (present). We come from a time when nearly all black, mixed raced and Asian staff were at the bottom working as AAs & AOs (junior and senior clerks) and in-spite of most being over qualified and immensely talented through institutionalised and systemic racism - we were being kept back from realising our talents through career progression. This was the spur to us mobilising ourselves to form the first AGRE (Advisory Group for Race Equality that was chaired by Surresh Khanna then Carl Warren  - Lorna, Rahima, Adrian & I + many others who have since left the service were original members of the then race advisory group (there was none before that in DTI). Later on during the time of BIS when I worked in UKT&I  - Rahima became Chair of AGRE and I became 1 of 2 vice chairs the other being Angela Conner - Lorna then became the networks secretary of which she demonstrated her skills in being the most competent and effectively network secretary I have ever known  - always going above and beyond. Lorna was quiet by nature but if you got to know her you would appreciate her in depth knowledge of the race and discrimination issues in the department (& CS) her calm manner and consistent work from the beginning of Race Equality/BAME networks in the old DTI right through to the present I think speaks for itself. Following Brexit the work of UKTI was incorporated into the new DIT where I formed the race network which has since evolved into the DITs Equality & Human Rights Network. I have had the pleasure to continue working with Lorna as an Allie of FAME & at the cross HMG race forum CSRF. Lorna's passing is a huge loss to the department & CS and she will be greatly missed. I feel honoured to have known her and for her to have been my friend. Ricky Belgrave Chair, Equality & Human Rights Network DIT (Allied to FAME)
